General Election 2011:
This is perhaps the first time I'm actually vaguely interested in a slice of politics. Watching a few rallies on youtube, looking at articles and comments on the nominees and how people shoot each other down just to climb to the top. I suppose politics is that way - unforgiving and cruel. Because you become a leader, you are put in the spotlight. Every single detail of your life is dug up and scrutinized, privacy becomes a thing of the past. Look at Tin Pei Ling, her private life and marriage was exposed for the world to see and now she's nicknamed "Kate Spade".
Speaking of candidates though, I think Tin Pei Ling really needs to prove herself useful in the next few years, because she has been said to ride on the coattail of SM Goh. Oh wells, we'll see. The comments against her are a bit too much though, I find. The takeaway from GE2011 should be that the PAP really needs to reflect on why their votes and support dropped so much since the last elections. I will have the chance to vote at the next elections and I forsee my GRC (Marine Parade) to be one of the hotspots, since Nicole Seah is probably going to contest again with a stronger team. If the PAP doesn't do anything about it, I'm afraid more people would gear towards the opposition. It will be scary if Singapore one day becomes a 2 party government. These are just my objective thoughts anyway. No offence to anyone.
Anyway, I made history in my life today! One milestone checked for Lynn. I ice-skated for the first time today! It was really bad because I've never rollerbladed in my life and now i'm doing it - on ice. So yes, I was extremely cautious since falling down equals to another dislocation of my right elbow and that really isn't a good thing because my elbow is already in a bad state. I must really thank the other 3 people I went with! Kenwei, Izhar and Shu Qing. Their commendable amount of patience really helped! Izhar and Shu Qing would drag me quickly through the ice so that I would get a feel of what it was like to skate. Kenwei would bring me through slowly and let me figure out how to go step by step. The end result: I finally can move through the ice on my own, without holding the side bar, albeit a little slow. It's a start!
